Florence Road - Spring Forward EP
Florence Road is an exceptional all-female indie rock band from Bray, Dublin. After their kick-off last year, they are now going on tour internationally in support of The Last Dinner Party. Their latest EP, Spring Forward features four outstanding tracks that present the whole talent and skill that this young band embraces. What stands out about this EP is that the tracks, instruments, mixing and vocals, seem exceptionally curated and carefully selected. It's the perfect balance between minimalist and overwhelming, that perfect point between two extremes that was hit in every song. Hanging Out To Dry is a stunning song that definitely has future indie rock hymn potential. The vocals carry a depth and emotion that reminds of artists like Billie Eilish or Amy Lee. This track displays the whole skillset of Florence Road, brilliant melody, lovely instrumental play and lyrics that match the gloomy-melancholic state of the album.
Miss starts out as a wonderful acoustic ballad that feels like smoking outside on a sad rainy day. It resembles Billie Eilish’s Wildflower at first, then progresses into a heavier song with a pinch of alt rock energy. Rabbits Can Swim has a wonderful piano intro. Just like Miss it progresses into a heavier song as well. The melody sounds inspired by Olivia Rodrigo’s Traitor.
Finally, the EP concludes with Storm Warnings, a beautiful gentle rock ballad. The instrumental part sounds iconic already, as it hits this perfect balance between slow and overwhelming that I mentioned before. Spring Forward is the ultimate indie rock collection. Melancholic and heavy, still burning with passion and musically exceptional.
