Gurriers - Nobody's Coming to Save You

Gurriers - Nobody's Coming to Save You

words: Corey Grange

Nobody's Coming to Save You. Firstly, what a title. Secondly, what an album. These noisy lads are on top of the world, and I think they know it. The title track is a barnburner and we all know that already. It's in heavy rotation in tattoo studios already (it played when I got my mine last week). 'Party Lines' opens with a political statement and gives us the grooviest track on the album (and a Primal Scream reference, perhaps?). We're all moving, kill us all I suppose. 'Shades' sees Dan Hoff experimenting with his vibrato, which is a fun change from his typical Dublin chanting. Transitioning from loud to JAYSUS THAT'S LOUD, a great track. 'Pins' is a surefire hit with one of the catchiest choruses to come this year. 'Your love is the meaning'. Beautiful sentiment from a gang of gurriers. The drums here are crispy as well, shoutout to Pierce Callaghan there. 'Today Is Not Enough' sees the album at its most Come and See, with Hoff at his most Dublin. Charlie McCarthy put some work into this one too, the bass is KitKat chunky here. They're trying new things all over this album. 'Drones' is another hypnotic, Gilla Band/Primal Scream type vibe, which, promise me, I am entirely cool with. 'Nothing Happens Twice' has been in my head since I heard it. Thank god. That Grand Social gig was mental as well, this tune a highlight. 'Waiting for Fisher' is The Fall on uppers. High praise. "Who you think you are, I am". What a line. 'I Wish I Was' is eerily beautiful and 'Crybaby' is Hoff's best vocal performance yet, with some of O'Neill's best guitar parts too. No second album syndrome here. Legends in the making.
