Creepy Future - Brace Yourself
‘Brace Yourself’ is the first LP from Creepy Future, a three piece of Dublin heavy music veterans, comprised of Moose [Wild Rocket, Black Coral, BB84], Conzo [Female Hercules, Afterwardness] and Derek [Moutpiece, Objectorz]. The band trades in a take on classic garage rock, catchy riffs with and eye toward simplicity and repetition that often blossoms into something more heady and atmospheric, brimming with piss, vinegar and sugar sweet earworms, the sound of energetic malcontents unafraid of a bong. The album is a sterling slice of experimental punk, fourteen hook laden, caustic tracks, many of which fall under the two minute mark. Opening number, the 2025 single ‘Trust Your Guts’, lays much of the groundwork for what's to follow, hooky, weighty tunes that bring to mind proto-punk heroes like Destroy All Monsters or The Zeros. There are variations on that theme, with songs like ‘You’re So Transparent’ and ‘Look Busy!’ adding darker hues and timbres to the fury, a wah soaked guitar solo and an almost carnivalesque atmosphere. Elsewhere, the tight garage rock of ‘Delivery From Italy’ devolves into a delightfully mushy close that hangs on one chord for over a minute. Excellently recorded and mixed by Tommy O’ Sullivan [DeepintheWoods66, Estel], the raw and dry production perfectly captures the bands frenetic energy and excellent performances throughout. A handsome vinyl release through a collaboration with the band’s Swizz Records label and Distro-y Records now joins a slew of fantastic releases from Irish leftfield punk bands over the last year, including Fierce Shook and Marrowbone.
An excellent addition to the library for fans of mid 70’s Detroit Punk, high octane, no nonsense riffery, and want to know what The Users might have been like if Moose Electronics pedals were available back then.
