Faye Webster took to the Collins Barracks stage as the second show as part of the Wider Than Pictures series, with her blend of alternative Indie-Pop, R&B providing the perfect soundtrack to the picturesque National Gallery of Ireland Venue.
The show was opened by South London’s Amie Blu, who’s warm vocals and stage presence were a significant contrast to the pouring rain. Blu performed notable tracks from her debut album when all is said and done, which has recently received massive online notoriety and co-signs from stars such as SZA, Daniel Caesar and Laufey. This Summer marked Blu’s second tour run alongside Webster, with her Indie, Alternative R&B and Pop sound being an undoubtable complimentary opener for Webster.
Dublin’s own Irish garage punk band SPRINTS were an energetic follow-up, keeping the crowd moving and engaged despite the intense, wet weather. SPRINTS captivated the audience whilst performing their hard-hitting, explosive tracks such as ‘Descartes’, ‘Heavy’ and ‘Little Fix’. Lead singer Karla Chubb’s vocals echoed throughout the courtyard, making great use of the unique, historic venue.
Just before Webster hit the stage, fans had gathered at the front at the barriers excitedly in their merchandise and ponchos, anticipating her performance. Webster opened the show with tracks from her 2024 album Underdressed at the Symphony, immediately pulling the audience in with her airy vocals and intimate arrangements. Fans held onto each word as Webster performed her Indie-Pop, Alt-Country and R&B tracks in her distinct tone and cadence. The rain, despite its might, added a scenic element and worked beautifully with the performance. Webster then moved onto other tracks such as ‘Jonny’, ‘Lego Ring’, ‘In A Good Way’, saving her most commercially successful song ‘Kingston’ for the encore.
