ELDER ISLAND - BUTTON FACTORY

Elder Island – Button Factory

words: Sean Woods

Elder Island take to the stage in front of a sell-out and well-up-for-it crowd (it is a Friday of a bank holiday weekend after all). The Bristol based natives have recently returned to Europe after a series of headline shows in North America. Katy Sargeant, lead singer seems reserved to start but laps up the audience’s reaction and encouragement.  She is flanked by her two bandmates - guitar slungheroes, who also both have synths and beats in front of them. They play a good few numbers their recent release Hello Baby Okay – released in May of this year and they go down well with the excited crowd. The funky bass on ‘Letters’ moves the room in unison. They use looping vocals and thumping beats to great effect and there is a genuine connection and banter between the three band members and friends. They finish on Black Fur, top played on a certain streaming platform, with Katy’s soaring vocals ringing in our hears and heads as we depart. Yes it is a Friday of a long weekend but you feel it would be much the same buzz on a rainy Tuesday!

Great show!

(By the way - kudos for the ‘Elder Ireland’ tees at the merch stand!! – Did I buy one?

Yes! Will my wife be happy? – Mmm maybe not?!)
