BLAB001 - Grand Social - 30/3/26
BLAB had a showcase in The Grand Social, selling tees and mags. Delivery Service were there, serving 90s power, funky fashion and catchy choruses. These guys are professionals and their songs prove this. Earworms galore with these guys. Aesthetically pleasing as much as they are aurally pleasing, this band are one to watch. The songs are there, the vocals are most definitely there. Terrific. DigDeep are up next: phenomenal musicians, with a bag full of weirdness. Off-kilter, jazz-infused heavy rock songs about greyhounds and bog bodies. Loud noises, loud sax and a LOUD lead singer (shoutout to Mort). Emphasis there for a reason. Nasty riffs too, my lord. Think Viagra Boys and Morphine having a lovechild with... Primus? Not sure, but they're procreating with someone. Some groovers too. A crowd divider for sure, but that's always a good thing. Smashing. Burglar opening with an 'Ashes to Ashes'-esque keyboard riff got me on-side immediately. The contrast between the male and female vocals is lovely here, with some crunchy lead/rhythm guitar. There's a hint of Frank Black/Kim Deal here, which is a tough thing to do without sounding derivative. They've nailed it. A perfectly 90s sound (much like Delivery Service). A bit Pixies, a bit Pavement, even a bit of Sonic Youth. Fun stuff. Nixer came on at 10:15, my poor feet. A Buckfast sharing electro-rap duo, they definitely brought the energy. Rapping in a Dublin accent has always been cool to me. Perhaps I have a career ahead of me. Cool lads, check every band out if possible.
