Kruder & Dorfmeister- The Button Factory

Peter Kruder & Richard Dorfmeister came to prominence with two immensely popular mixes. Their DJ-Kicks mix from 1996 and the K&D Sessions mix from 1998. This event marked the 30th anniversary of the former. Uniquely, they expertly blended various styles (and native tempos), producing a laidback groove that was perfect for an afterparty comedown vibe. As part of an AV experience, the Austrian duo stand between a traditional backstage screen and a second, floor-to-ceiling gauze of sorts between the artists and the crowd.  The opening track is as per CD: The Herbaliser - A Mother. The sounds of the ocean intro, accompanied by a visual representation. Next, track ‘Livin’ Free’ by Small World has the album mix cover projected on screen. Our entertainers, 30 years younger, sing along as seen in many A.I. videos. Thereafter, it’s more of a hodgepodge of visual effects that broadly enhance the audio experience. They knowingly stray from the original running order in quick time. The tightly packed crowd can only slightly shuffle about to the downtempo beats. As the night progresses, the floor thins out, the intensity lifts, and the venue becomes a sea of movement. Tracks are manipulated in real time on their banks of electronics. Kruder most obviously uses an electronic drum, while Dorfmeister demonstrates his musical gifts on flute and guitar.

There is a constant stream of modern choice cuts before they play out with legendary mixed tracks: Depeche Mode - Useless, Count Basic - Speechless, and their own ‘Black Baby’.
