THEATRE- Whelan’s

Limerick-born band THEATRE are taking the music scene by storm with their blending of folk, shoegaze and indie rock styles. This week saw them return to Whelans for a sold out show. Opening for them, Burglar; a Dublin-based band, reshaping slacker rock with a pop twist (think early Clairo meets Veruca Salt.) Their set was captivating with both vocalists intertwining their voices, creating ethereal shadows of each other along to a backing of distorted guitars. The crowds energy was respectful and more on the quieter side, with transfixed gazes up on to the stage; perhaps too mesmerised to dance. The audience packed in tightly for THEATRE’s set, the sweat dripping off the ceiling. The haunting vocals from lead singer Maeve O’Shea filled the room, dancing around as though an angry, yet delicate, banshee had been awoken. The soundscape of guitar riffs, drums and fervent vocals emulated the response from the audience with jagged movements and exhilaration unfolding from within each member. THEATRE gave a powerful glimpse of what they’re about with this performance, undeniably showing that this is just the beginning.
